Whitegoods
When choosing a refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher, clothes washer or clothes dryer look carefully at the energy rating label. It tells you how energy efficient the appliance is, as well as the amount of electricity required to run it each year. The more stars the less energy used and the lower the operating costs. This also means reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

If you're looking to purchase a refrigerator for example, the site allows you to do a search based on type (eg two door fridge/freezer), capacity (eg 400-500 litres) and brand name. Your search results will be ranked in accordance with the star rating index and you will be provided with information on energy consumption per year and a 10 year energy cost. This energy cost is based on an electricity price of 12.5 c/kWh. To change the cost calculator setting to reflect Western Australian prices (13.94 c/kWh) type 13.94 in the box titled electricity cost at the top of the screen.
