ENERGY SAVING MONTH - DEPARTMENT OF TREASURY AND FINANCE Power rangers and energy scouts roamed the corridors of the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) as part of their highly successful Energy Saving Month. Organised by John Tedesco, the Department's then Business Services Manager, the Energy Saving Month operated across all of DTF's city office locations when staff were encouraged to switch off energy-wasting appliances and unnecessary lighting. "The appointment of power rangers and energy scouts on each floor greatly contributed to the success of the event," Mr Tedesco said. Dumas House, Governor Stirling Tower and Newman House all have several floors of DTF employees and each floor participated in the project. "Keeping score by floor or energy area added a bit of fun competition to the event," said Mr Tedesco. Those that achieved the greatest energy reduction were the employees at Dumas House Level 6 East and Level 6 West. These two areas tied for first place having both attained a 45% reduction on their energy use during the month. Two other locations achieved a 40% reduction in energy consumption and several achieved a saving of over 30%. Considering the savings made in just one month, the projected annual saving in energy is more than $52,000 equating to a 300 tonne reduction in CO2 emissions. It just goes to show what you can save if you switch off a light or turn off an appliance when it's not needed. Not only can you save your business or department money, you can help save the environment as well. |
