CHOOSE ENERGY SMART

Energy Smart Directory
The Energy Smart Directory provides access to organisations, products and services to assist you to manage your energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

Electrical Appliances
The Energy Rating website is a joint initiative of Commonwealth, State and Territory governments to help you to find the most efficient electrical appliances on the market. For example, if you're looking to purchase a refrigerator you can do a search of the site based on type (eg two door fridge/freezer), capacity (eg 400-500 litres) and brand name. Your results will be ranked in accordance with the star rating index and you'll be provided with information on energy consumption per year and a 10 year energy cost. This energy cost is based on an electricity price of 12.5 c/kWh. You can change the cost calculator setting to reflect Western Australian residential prices (13.94 c/kWh) by typing 13.94 in the box titled electricity cost at the top of the screen.

Gas Appliances
The Australian Gas Association publishes a 'Directory of Certified Gas Appliances and Components' on a yearly basis. The directory provides a list of all appliances and components covered under the Australian Gas Association's and Australian Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association's Approval Certification Scheme. The directory is available online and contains information on the annual energy consumption and star ratings for some of the certified gas appliances, including household hot water systems and heaters.

Windows
The Window Energy Rating Scheme (WERS) ranks residential windows for their energy performance in typical housing across Australia. Some windows are better in heating (cold) climates, some are better in cooling (warm) climates, while others are all-rounders. The Australian Windows Association provides information on the scheme and a list of WERS-rated manufacturers.

Shop Smart - Buy Green
Environment Australia produces a booklet (which is available online) to help consumers understand the environmental impact of products they buy by considering the product's life cycle, including its manufacture, transport, use and disposal.

Office Equipment
This website is part of a cooperative energy efficiency program of Commonwealth, State and Territory governments in Australia. It provides information on purchasing energy efficient office equipment, such as personal computers, monitors, printers and fax machines, as well as information to help you enable ENERGY STAR on your computer.

Vehicles
The Australian Greenhouse Office produces a Fuel Consumption Guide which contains a full list of fuel consumption figures for cars from 1986 to current model vehicles. It includes figures for both city cycle and highway cycle fuel tests.

The web site also has a range of other information, including information on the fuel consumption label. Since 1 January 2001, all new cars (passenger vehicles, four wheel drives and light commercials up to 2.7 tonnes gross vehicle mass) sold in Australia have been required to carry this on the windscreen at the point of sale.

Electric Motors
Motor Solutions Online is a website managed by the Energy Efficiency Best Practice Program which has been developed in cooperation with the Australian Greenhouse Office as part of the Australian Motor Systems Challenge. It provides comprehensive information and guidance, as well as practical information and tools, to help your business make the right choices about electric motors.

Waterwise Rebate Program
The WaterCorp's Waterwise Rebate Program offers rebates on washing machines, water efficient shower heads and in-flow tap regulators.
